Stony Brook's Cinderella College World Series Run ends today vs Florida State

Today coach of the year Matt Senk and his Cinderella Seawolves hopes of a national championship ended. Brandon McNitt, 8-2 on the year, started for the Seawolves knowing what was at stake. He was lit up in the third inning which put Stony Brook down 7-0 in which the team was only able to gain back 2 runs as Stony Brook pitching gave up 5 in a game that ended 12-2 Florida State. 

Stony Brook was able to win their Regional by beating Miami, Missouri State and UCF. Then the team shocked many college baseball fans by defeating powerhouse LSU 2-1 in the super regional. The lost to UCLA in the first game of the World Series which put them into this 0-1 hole. Florida state on the other hand beat UAB and Samford in their Regional to play Stanford in the super regional in which they won 2-0. They lost to Arizona in the first game of the College World Series but have bounced back with this win against Stony Brook.

Devon Travis of Florida State helped the beat down as he was 3-3 with a HR, 3 RBIS and 2 BB. Florida State pitcher Mike Compton also helped shutting out the Seawolves bats which had the highest batting averages in the country including Travis Jankowski's .414 average. Mike Compton was 12-2 this year and pitched 6 innings giving up 6 hits and the only two Stony Brook runs of the game as the bullpen held Stony Brook silent. 

Stony Brook was no fluke or easy task against this national powers. They had a tough season in which they put up a fight and even with this quick exit in the World Series they should consider this a good season as it was the first time the team made the tournament. So congrats to Stony Brook on making it this far and good luck to Florida State in this tournament.
